Objective- To promote participation in yacht racing in the Mid-Atlantic region, the New Jersey Ocean Racing Conference was established to provide awards for yachts that compete in multiple regattas throughout the season.

Eligibility- Competing yachts must have a valid 2009 PHRF-MA certificate or be in a sanctioned One Design Class. Yachts racing One Design must register with PHRF-MA and pay a $30 fee to be eligible, unless they also hold a current 2009 PHRF-MA certificate.

Trophies- Trophies will be awarded for first, second, and third place in the following divisions:

· Sport Boat – Yachts that are designated as sport boats by the PHRF-MA committee

· PHRF A – Yachts with PHRF-MA rating of 84 or less

· PHRF B – Yachts with PHRF-MA rating of 85 to 110

· PHRF C – Yachts with PHRF-MA rating of 111 to 135

· PHRF D - Yachts with PHRF-MA rating of 136 and greater

· PHRF N1 – Non-Spinnaker Yachts with PHRF-MA rating of 156 or less

· PHRF N2 – Non-Spinnaker Yachts with PHRF-MA rating of 157 and greater

Please note that these division breaks are for NJORC Championship Trophy scoring only. While PHRF-MA encourages the race committees of the qualifying regattas to attempt to follow these divisional breakdowns, as it will enhance competition throughout the season, the race committee of each qualifying regatta will determine the actual fleet splits used in that regatta.

PHRF-MA reserves the rights to add, subtract, or amalgamate division based on participation.

Qualifying- To qualify for the NJORC Season Championship trophies a yacht must sail in at least four (4) of the ten (10) regattas that have been designated as NJORC Qualifying Regattas with the following NEW exception :

Southern Area yachts traveling to a Raritan / Sandy Hook NJORC event and Northern Areas yachts traveling to a Manasquan/Barnegat Bay area NJORC event may count the results of the regatta they traveled to twice for NJORC Series standings.  This rule will allow a yacht to race two races in their area and one outside of their area and still qualify as having raced the minimum 4 events for NJORC Series scoring purposes. If a yacht participates in more than one “out of area” event, the event providing the yacht’s best score will be calculated as the “double scoring” event for that yacht.  Boats traveling to an out of area NJORC event via a trailer, do not qualify for the out of area double score rule.

· Bill Volk Memorial Regatta; Keyport Yacht Club; June 13-14

· AHYC Ocean Race; Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club; July 11

· McCray Cup, Manasquan River Yacht Club; July 12

· 62nd Red Grant Regatta; Raritan Yacht Club; July 18-19

· Heinrich Race; Manasquan River Yacht Club; July 26

· Squan Tri-Sail Regatta; BHYC, MRYC, MCYC; Aug. 1-2 (2009 PHRF of the Mid-Atlantic Championships)

· Poco Loco Race; Richmond County Yacht Club; Sept. 26

· RYC Fall Regatta; Raritan Yacht Club; Oct. 10-11

Scoring- Yachts will be scored using the final place awarded in the division sailed in each qualifying regatta.

NJORC Scoring for each regatta will be calculated as a percentage, determined as the number of boats beaten in the division sailed plus one, divided by the number of boats in that division

NJORC Season Championship scoring for each yacht will be the sum of its best four (4) percentage scores.

If the race committee of a qualifying regatta scores a yacht without a valid PHRF-MA certificate in a NJORC qualifying division, NJORC will not use the scores for that division at that regatta for the Season Championship trophies.

Ties will be decided in favor of the yacht that competed in more NJORC regattas.

Awards- NJORC Season Championship trophies will be awarded at the annual awards dinner.
