Seminar

Hosted by
Raritan
Yacht Club
Friday 31 July 2009
This hands-on program presented by the
Storm Trysail Club will give junior sailors a unique
opportunity to learn about safety equipment and practices
related to big boat sailing. This is the first time such a
program has been offered in New Jersey. The program will
include classroom instruction, dockside demonstrations, and
on-the-water practice in boats ranging from 30 to 40 feet
in length. Skills to be covered include: big boat and crew
organization, safety gear, crew overboard recovery, life
raft deployment, storm sail use, and navigation.
Instructors have heavy weather experience and tens of
thousands of sea miles. They include Bermuda Race,
TransPac, and other major ocean race winners.
Time: 0830
hrs – 1730 hrs.
Who: Participants should be intermediate-level sailors ages
14-18. They should be able to drive a sailboat, but need
not have big boat experience. Junior programs are
encouraged to come as a group accompanied by their junior
instructor or coach. All juniors must be supervised.
Enrollment is limited to 150.
Cost: $45 (juniors and adult supervisors). Price includes
donuts in the morning, lunch, and end-of-day ice cream
party as well as T-shirt and take-home documents. We hope
to be able to make a limited number of scholarships
available
